As an Exhibition Project Curator at the V&A, I worked on several projects relating to the museum’s extensive Theatre & Performance Collections, and helped develop the concept and content for Laughing Matters: The State of a Nation, a new display in the British Galleries.
2019 is a significant year for the history of comedy in the UK. It marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of the alternative comedy scene and 50 years since Monty Python’s first broadcast and the premiere of Carry On Camping. It’s also a significant year for the nation, with the expiration of Article 50 and the expected departure of the UK from the European Union. Laughing Matters: The State of a Nation explores comedy’s impact on society, the way comedy has been used as a marker of culture, and how it affects the way we see ourselves and others.
